Looking beyond the “Halloween”

Halloween, allows us to explore our funniest side! It’s an opportunity for children to unleash their creative and spooky side and an excuse to overdose on sugar and candies, not only that ,but its also an opportunity for them to evolve and learn about others children characters by simply trying to guess who they are dressed up as.
As the traditions of Halloween passed to us from its original Celtic culture, this was a mark of celebration as a festival of the harvest; a color of autumn is used to describe it and to generate a sensual and joyful vibe to this celebration. Orange, being the most predominant autumn color is inspired by the nature gifts at harvest time such as the pumpkin and leaves. Orange is vibrant and jolly color that no one can deny the effect of this zesty tone to our spirits!
With the multicultural society that we live in, UAE is a wonderful country that shows how diversity and tolerance can be praised. Without any prejudice and intolerance Halloween celebration doesn’t mean you give up your religion and faith. It’s a chance to practice tolerance and have some simply creative fun with your children. I’m a mother that insists on giving my children the freedom of exploring, experimenting and simply enjoying every simple event around the year. Eid to Christmas and friendship day, we embrace and celebrate with an open heart. What we believe in stays in our hearts and mind like a solid rock this is the foundation that I’m striving to teach my children. We believe in happiness and practice happiness by joining any happy jolly party!
The dark and shady history of Halloween is something that a child brain will not comprehend at a young age, yet the fun of dressing up in their favorite costume and the memories of their silly mom’s choices will last forever.
Let us put on the side the spooky witchy stories and teach our children something more fun and inspiring such as harvest stories. If you want to add a spooky element you can talk about scarecrows that they used to scare birds of crops! have a happy Halloween and celebrate with open hearts!

Share with us your thoughts, how do you teach your kids about it.
